a gun from the backyard of a nearby home. as kron four's rob fladeboe reports now, the suspects were then trailed by police to another nearby residence where a brief standoff >> one of at least two armed robbery suspects could be seen being taken into custody by police early friday near the intersection of mt. pleasant and clayton roads in east san jose. they are thought to be the same men who were spotted earlier by a resident of nearby monrovia avenue. for about two hours, robert saunders elementary school here on rocky mountain way was locked down as precaution. a few blocks away, in what police call a 'surround and call-out' operation' at least 21 officers and a couple canine units surrounded a home on clayton road where the suspects and several other people were thought to be holed up inside and quite possibly armed with a gun thought to have been used in a robbery on thursday. >> it may have been a fire arm that was from yesterday's event. but they went to the backyard to retrieve it. it did not belong to a residence but this is speculation. they are probably going to go back

to save the brand, mitch mcconnell, lamar alexander, rob portman, their strategy's going to be make deals with the white house, first on the fkiscal cliff and then on guns. then the ball's going to be in the court of the house, and there's going to be nowhere to hide, no ambiguity. what's standing in the way of dealing with the fiscal cliff? speaker boehner striking a deal with a lot of democrats and some republicans. if the white house can work with the senate leadership on the republican side and senator reid and they get a deal there, that's going to put the republicans in the house on the line to say, are you together with the country and with other branch, the executive branch in the other chamber, or are you going your own way? then it's going to be up to boehner to decide what to do. >> willie, the republicans just keep playing into the president's hand. contraception this spring was the big debate. and now -- they never see it coming, like this gun debate right now, they're stuck in 1994. they think ruby ridge and waco happened the year before. they're never going to see it coming

travel plans today. it was ugly here in the east, too. let's get to karen mcagain nis in for rob marciano today. >> john, yes, it does look like a very unsettled weather pattern, not just across the west coast and the east but midwest, just in time for christmas. it looks like if you are traveling towards the midwest, serious snow expected there in the next several days. look at the west coast and seattle, the snow levels have been down as low as 200 feet. they will go up to 400 feet for the afternoon. some of these snowfall totals, very substantial going into the next several days. could see 10 or 20 inches of snowfall. but in the midwest, this is what we'll focus on. we haven't seen a significant snow event like this. this one occurs as we go into wednesday and then for thursday, so you're traveling into chicago or des moines or topeka, wichita and even into denver. you could expect perhaps some delays later on in the workweek. how about 48-hour snowfall totals? spokane just under 5 inches being reported there. in libby, montana, two-day snow totals just about 2 feet. and newtown, conne
